Thu Giang Ngo- I am a Lettering Artist & I visualize the World by illustrated Letters
My name is Thu Giang Ngo. I was born and raised in Hà Nội, the capital of Việt Nam, where my foundation in art and design was shaped by the city’s rich cultural heritage and love for language and craft. I began my formal journey in design by earning a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts (VNUFA).
Seeking to deepen my knowledge, I moved to Hồ Chí Minh City to pursue a Master of Arts in Applied Art at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts (HCMUFA). There, I expanded my skills in applied visual communication and gained practical industry experience across media, events, and studio environments.
My path later led me to Bremen, Germany, where I am completing a Master of Arts in Integrated Design at the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK Bremen)—a program that challenges traditional design boundaries through interdisciplinary and research-driven approaches.
Throughout my journey, I have cultivated a design practice centered on Lettering, Type Design, and brand identity. I am particularly passionate about the expressive potential of the Art of Lettering, calligraphy, and type design. My work is informed by a deep understanding of cultural aesthetics, enabling me to blend traditions, methods, and perspectives in fresh and meaningful ways.
I received multiple national awards in graphic design and was selected as one of only three recipients (from 300 applicants) of the Lettering Seminar Scholarship by renowned artist Martina Flor, sponsored by Adobe.
In addition to my academic and artistic pursuits, I’ve worked across a wide range of creative industries—as a freelancer, in media agencies, event branding, food & beverage marketing, and photo studio management. I’ve also contributed to academic research on the evolution of the graphic design industry and have experience teaching design, which continues to inform my reflective and practice-based approach.
Among my most meaningful works are Bông Gòn — the projects combining hands-on experimentation with Vietnamese diacritics and traditional printing techniques. It embodies my ongoing mission to serve as an ambassador for Vietnamese culture through applied art, using the beauty of words to express the feelings in the heart that are difficult to articulate.
